Are Refrigerator Water Filters Worth It

Refrigerator water filters: Huge price differences, OK to buy off-brands?

My fridge takes a Whirlpool 4396508 h2o filter. The part is $45 new. Still, Amazon sells the following: EcoAqua $12.48, PerfectPure $13.99, IcePure $10.00. What gives? Reviews for all look bully, but I don't know if the internals tin can exist trusted.

How I see information technology, equally long as the filter keeps chunks of stuff out of my glass, all is skillful. Yous can besides go with an opaque glass and so you don't meet any floaters. The cheapest has worked for me.

My fridge uses a different filter than yours and afterwards reading all the reviews, I've decided to pay a petty more than and stick with the Whirlpool brand.

FWIW, I usually buy OEM filters and just run them like 3x as long as the thing in my fridge tells me to - I just reset the counter a couple times before irresolute information technology. This has ever seemed similar a better fashion to salvage money to me, just I don't know if I'one thousand courting whatever type of disaster by doing that.

We do this until we discover a difference in taste of the water. The recommended has to be for average use and right now it's merely me and the husband there's no fashion we drink however many gallons in vi months.

I tried using a generic filter for my Samsung fridge and it leaked all over the deli drawer, making the drawer unusable. Replaced with the Samsung filter and no problems.

level 2

Did you accept issues with water force per unit area of the water dispenser with the generic filter?

Information technology'due south but charcoal . The fact the oem is $45.00 is a huge rip off and steal. The fact is in that location is nearly $1 in plastic/metal and $0.50 in charcoal

level 2

Yeah, all of the rest is branding and placebo

Off brand is all I've ever bought. Works fine

I always try the genetics, hoping to relieve some money. I accept a Samsung fridge, the generic brand taste weird. So, I'thousand going dorsum to the proper noun brand.

The more expensive filters are rated to filter more than from your water. My GE branded filter for is supposed to remove pharmaceuticals from my drinking water. The cheep filters don't make that promise.

level 2

Eh... I haven't seen whatever proof of that.

I bought GE filters for my GE fridge for years, then starting using the generics a couple of years agone. Currently it's the EcoAqua filter I'grand using. Either way the h2o that comes out tastes like bottled, so I'm happy because I drink tons of it. If my water company reports showed borderline levels of contaminants I might leap for the more expensive filters again, but for me information technology'due south just the clean and pure flavor I was looking for.

I buy GE offbrand ones from amazon for $x-12 ea and they're fine. Only be sure to read the reviews.

The last few times I bought generic the quality was off and they leaked, no matter how much I checked the fit. We utilise OEM filters but run them for two or three times every bit long, just reset the light. Nosotros don't alter it until we gustatory modality that the filter isn't working

I read a few bad reviews of the offbrand and they didn't seem worth the gamble so I went official Samsung make. Went iv years with the one that came with the refrigerator...probably likewise long.
