A Chocolate and Hot Pink Entrance

In designer Ned Marshall's entry, the hot pink sofa is a knockout against walls painted Benjamin Moore's Bittersweet Chocolate. Marshall painted the floors in a tone-on-tone gray marbleized plaid.

A Warm Sitting Room

Warm orange in the sitting room gives "a cozy feel," says Marshall, "to what is a rather cold, grand space." He blended Benjamin Moore paints to get just the right color, which was inspired by the Hermès-box-orange leather of the Louis XV-style armchairs.

An Intimate Dining Room

To create intimacy in the dining room, Marshall painted the tall, imposing walls Bittersweet Chocolate by Benjamin Moore: "The brown is also nice with the blue and white and the gilt, and it's lovely in candlelight." Louis XV-style chairs from Pastiche are covered in antique Brazilian chintz.

A Silver Entrance Hall

Marshall wanted the second-floor entrance hall to be "neutral, but not boring." He painted the walls with silver radiator paint, then added overscaled, soft, "tarnished" stripes in a gray-tinted glaze for a "subtly dramatic" effect. The foot sculpture is a plaster cast of the foot of Apollo.

A Mantel with a Mix of Accessories

On the dining room mantel, Marshall mixed 19th-century Chinese porcelain from Pastiche with blue vases from Andrea by Sadek and candlesticks from Pottery Barn.

A Multifunctional Bedroom

With its tall built-in bookcase, the guest bedroom doubles as a library. Marshall decorated it with "odd bits of things," including an 1870 American painted bed laid with a quilt made by his Kentucky great-grandmother. The chair is covered in red leather by Edelman.

Personal Effects

Blueprints are stored in old tole containers near the room's Belgian marble mantelpiece. The green majolica bowls, candelabra, mirror, lamp, and rattan table are from Pastiche.

A Milk Chocolate Master Bedroom

The custom color in the master bedroom "was probably influenced by my first childhood bedroom," says Marshall, "which had milk chocolate walls."

In the New Orleans climate, benign neglect often turns into charm, as in this peeling wall.
